As part of its efforts to reach out to students in the interest of corporate social responsibility, Williams F1 collaborated with Cambridge-Hitachi, a leading consultancy in the area of educational software development. Williams F1, a Formula One team based out of the United Kingdom, hoped to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills, and Cambridge-Hitachi designed a product that reflected the Williams F1 brand while delivering a top-tier educational product. The result, Race to Learn, was a great success.
Focused on students in primary school, Race to Learn offers a fun way to learn scientific and mathematical topics. Produced with ease of use in mind, the program also includes numerous resources to support teachers in implementing the product, as well as online delivery through the London Grid for Learning, bringing Race to Learn to 2,000 primary schools. The product was a major success for both Williams F1 and Cambridge-Hitachi. In 2010, Race to Learn won a BETT Award for Primary Digital Content, and it has been widely praised for its excellence in stimulating students and providing information that spans the STEM curriculum.
