The Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN) has set up several communities of practice, which allow people interested in particular topics to come together to address challenges and push the frontiers of their fields. The communities maintain a professional focus and concentrate on developing new knowledge and sharing best practices.
NgREN takes the communities program seriously enough that it has devoted a full technical working group to collaborating with stakeholders, including experts and centers of excellence, to create new communities and enliven those in place already. The current roster of communities includes several dedicated to issues of food and biology, like the biotechnology and genetic engineering community and the food security community, as well as others in fields ranging from renewable energy and environmental degradation to software engineering and vocational training. Joining the communities involves filling out a simple web form or contacting a community leader directly. To learn more, or to view a full list of communities, visit NgREN.edu.ng.
